Whether the user can put the modem in bridge mode, or, whether a call to Comcast is needed I can't tell as I don't use it. You are correct. They are tightening down what the user can do. So xfinity is now literally disabling some network setting on the device itself, and are forcing us to use the xFi app to change some of these settings (see text at top of screen).
