A friend of mine has a Holley 3997788 6238-1. The numbers show it's a 1972 Z/28 with auto trans carb. The date code is a four digit code (1354) so it's a replacement carb from what I've researched and the "4" is the year of manufacture.Holley still offers original list number carburetors for highly collectible muscle cars. The date code is stamped just below the LIST number on the front side of the choke air horn. New member. I have a 1968 800 with a 345. The Holley carb is a 2 barrel 500 cfm 4412-5 with a date code of 2644. I am trying to get a rebuild kit for it. None of the local parts stores have a listing for it. One of them said it was a 2300 and sold me that kit. Thanks Chuck. My car is a late Feb. build so it would make sense for a Dec. carb build date. The letter threw me. I bought the intake/ carbs 4 or 5 years after the car and didn't pay any attention to the carb codes. It was the early '80's and I was a newbie. I guess I got lucky they were dated just right.

if the carb has a 4 digit date code it is not made is the 1960's and is worth less than a 60's made Holley 715. Four digit date date: first number is the year made, last three digits are the day of the year. ex: 7122 = carb made in 1977 (or 1987, or 1997, etc) and the 122nd day of the year. Z.
