It is not dead but since there are few people left playing it, new players gets matched up with seasoned ones thus matchmaking just doesnt work as intented at all. Most of the time you get dominated if you dont have a solid team to back you up. Also, most of the servers are down due to being DDOSed.

It has campaign with few important big battles, but you can read about it in 3-5 minutes. You don't have to, but playing Titanfall 1 just gives a good sense of the drawbacks and improvements of both games. I would say, play Titanfall 1 if you can (on PC if you don't have an X1) and then TF2. I'm slowly getting more juiced about the networks idea in TF2. I'm still not sure how they will work, but is there any plan for a Titanfall sub-reddit network?
