I now own the Marlin Model 1893 30-30 that my fathers bought from a friend in 1949 - I remember hunting with him when I was under ten years old. The serial number (158,xxx) indictates the gun was manufactured in 1897 - I took it to the range and fired it last week. Sometime in the future I will pass this rifle on to my son.

Apr 27, 2022 · If it is a 39A and not a 39 it could have been built, somewhere between 1938-40. 5 numbers and no prefix serial #s in those years. But the 39 or the 39A, didn't have a blued receiver until 1945, it should be case hardened. So if the prefix hasn't been messed up by the lever.

Mine says No. 064xx on the top tang. With the large number made they were in the catalog for several years.

A Marlin fold down rear sight. The folding leaf isn't a 39 leaf. It is too short. 39A's had a one piece rear sight up to about 1970 I think. The forearm is a slightly modified forearm. The one I'm asking about in this thread is a Marlin Model 39A, 24-inch, ".22 CAL. S. L. & L.R.". The serial number under the lever is 242XX. It has a small "JM" in an oval stamped on the right side of the barrel. The stock is plain. The rust primarily extends from a couple inches past the forend to the muzzle.
