The first round up for the Big Freakin’ Cartridge Test is IMI’s take on the Black Hill’s classic heavy precision load, Mk. 262. Branded as “77gr Razor Core”, IMI’s version sports annealed 5.56mm NATO cases, neck and primer sealant, and of course 77gr Open Tip Match projectiles.The AAC groups were 10 shots each. Each shot was made with 1 second and one breath between shots. This was done 5rds at a time, with a reload inbetween. The first group is the control with 62gr xtac green tip M855. The second group is AAC 75gr Sabre Black Tip, the 3rd group is AAC 77gr OTM. The OTM shot the tightest grouping Sub 1/2MOA.The AAC 308 WIN 150gr Soft Point now at $0.85/round is more expensive than the Saber 150gr polymer/ballistic tip I bought in Sep at $0.80/round. And the 150gr FMJ is now $0.72/round, and was $0.65/round. Still good prices for good ammo. Pick the bullet for the job you want to do.Averaging multiple groups per load, the "in-house" 77gr OTM was 1.317", the 77gr Sierra was 0.646". I also shot AAC 77gr TMK, which averaged 0.740". The different Hornady loads tested in the middle. The best loads were AAC 77gr SMK and TMK. The two worst loads were AAC 75gr Black Tip 1.272" and AAC OTM 1.317".
