Ive started dipping my toes into hbg after really enjoying my lbg build. Im usimg the barioth hbg with a pierce build. The sticky threads build has ammo up 3 and recommends looking at spare shot next. In order to fit one of those into my build though id lose 6 levels of attack boost, and 2 levels of crit eye. Is ammo up that big of a dps boost?

Don't look at the numbers when testing a build. Establish test monsters. My easy test monster is Rathian. Complete a hunt from start to finish and compare clear times. You're using Pierce LBG so 20 damage is great. You're hitting for damage multiple times on a pierce shot and basically machine gunning.

Pierce 1 ammo economy is awful. Grab Jyuratodus LBG (in 5*) or go all in on Nargacuga (6*). Jyura is probably easier to make since you don't have to grind out narga marrow/medulla, assuming you're cool with RF Spread 2 (honestly pretty fun now that the recoil on it isn't stupid). I mean for endgame (like after you beat fatalis), it's: Head-Rimeguard Y. Body- Dragonhide B. Arms- Dragonclaws B. Hip- DragonBarb A. Legs- Dragonfeet B. Charm-Challenger charm V. This is if you are using the boltshot for pierce 2, Fatalis depths for pierce 2 Rapid fire (it hits hella hard), or aquashot for pierce 3. Same build.
I used wroggi and GI LBG up until I made the narga bowgun, but you can probably use rheno or dreamshell armour for pierce up to boost damage a bit. To my understanding, elemental ammos double dip on raw since they have both a physical and elemental motion value which scales off of your attack so when you pump attack, you pump both the physical and elemental portion of the ammos.
