I'm new to this Forum, but have read all the previous Post regarding the H&R 922 Pistols regarding the Serial Numbers. Its saying the first version started in 1927 with the Serial Numbers starting with 125xxx. I inherited one from my Great Grandfather and the Serial Number starts with 124xxx. That is before the 1927 version starting with 125xxx. Most have nickel-plated receivers and are serial numbered within the same ranges as, and have other characteristics identical to, regular-production H&R Handy-Guns, by variation. None of those inspected during this research had any markings identifying H&R as original manufacturer. This work provides many details on the different H&R "Handy Gun" variants, loosely tied to serial number. It includes a list of approximately 250 surviving serial numbers and some pictures.On the top of the barrel it says: "Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. Worcester, Mass. USA" and on the side of the barrel it says "38 CAL S&W CTGE". It has the serial number stamped on the bottom of the butt end and underneath the lip of the barrel lock, and under the grips on the butt end of the revolver, the serial number is 224 043.I have a H and R 22 special, heavy frame 9 shot.Probably 2nd variation according to serial number. Well, I'm not up on the H&R's, but with no caliber markings it would be dated before 1905 and manufactured for black powder. Yeppers.. If it doesn't have a caliber marking it is a 1st Model - made between 1888-1904.
