It creates new factions and expanded them. there is no mechanic that allows the player to join an NPC faction. You could make your own hive. There are mods for recruitable Queens and or regular hivers. Just make sure to include Beep. You can get a bandit diversity mod that adds more hivers to the different bandit groups, try knocking them out from trade caravans with a stealth character, go to the up and try your luck at the slave marts, or you can find some littered throughout kenshi's many bars.

If the character has even one of them, they think it's a skeleton wearing the skin as a disguise. It's the Holy Nation, they don't need a reason to attack a non-human. The game's AI is set to think that as long as you have robotic limbs, NPCs will consider you a skeleton. This is the same logic that one unique recruit has :P.

Making a squad of hive only characters probably isn't an option either, as I will be having a frontline squad of skeletons, sheks, hive soldiers, and a back line squad using crossbows with humans, hive princes, and workers.
